Learning guidelines K-3

In our Kindergarten to Grade 3 program the focus is on the childs personal, social and intellectual growth. We recognize each child develops differently, with individual interests, strengths and needs.

Kindergarten

Explore, investigate, think and use all five senses. Children at this age learn by talking, exploring and experiencing in a variety of ways, including using imaginative play. Activities and experiences in kindergarten explore many subject areas at once.

Grade 1

Eager, curious, and generally self-confident – keen to learn to read and write. Among other skills, children learn to focus for longer periods as they read, write and work with numbers. They demonstrate more interest in developing relationships, making friends and having fun working and playing with others.

Grade 2

Building on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they developed in kindergarten and Grade 1

Grade 3

Can work for longer periods of time, as they explore ideas and read in each content area (e.g. social studies, science). Grade 3 children have increased co-ordination and try team sports. By the end of Grade 3, children show sensitivity to what others think of them. They show clear growth as they become ready to make the transition to the intermediate grades
